I was in a conversation with my parents, feeling at my most desperate due to their expectations. As their words weighed down on me, I unconsciously slumped down, a form of avoidance and passive resistance. That chaos suddenly went silent, and as a reflex, I lifted my head, revealing a new scene before my eyes. Overwhelmed by the unreal sight of a mysterious forest, my gaze was drawn to a girl with curly hair, green glasses, and tanned skin. She seemed to be in a state of helplessness. I wondered what had caused that helplessness. Was she also lost, like me? Naturally, we should have greeted each other first, but reality told us that this was too much of a luxury. Escaping this godforsaken place was our top priority. The magical blooms and their intriguing scents had me foolishly stepping closer until Mirabel rushed me to retreat. "Do you see?" she reprimanded me. "They remain open for a long time, but they close in the blink of an eye to eat poison." I was scared and one step from dying, ultra aware of my grave situation. Mirabel didn't merely observe, but she also understood the phenomenon's actions and responses. If she had not noticed so closely, I would be six feet under. I thought I was done for. Something huge and furry stood over me—was it going to rescue me? No, wait, was it trying to kill me? I fought against the creature with only a spindly tree branch. Mirabel had just climbed up a giant mushroom. While she was trying to distract the horrifying monster, I immediately seized the opportunity to swing up onto the rope that Mirabel had secured for me. Due to Mirabel’s problem-solving skill and courageous spirit, we had gotten out of this challenge. We sat in a little nook, and I sobbed. I felt so depressed as my elbows and knees were torn and bleeding, and I thought death was inevitable. A comforting warmth seemed to embrace me at that moment. Mirabel held me tightly, perhaps giving me a shining spark of hope. We sat close, finding warmth in each other's presence on that freezing night. It was only at that point that we genuinely greeted one another and began to share our innermost struggles. Mirabel talked about the burden of her family's expectations and the pain of not processing magic. Then, I talked about the pressure from my parents and also the tension in every conversation we had. For the first time, I felt utterly relieved, as she listened with soulful empathy and understanding.
